Mawell strengthens its position in Nordic market by supplying service counselling in Sweden

Mawell, a Nordic company specialising in health care solutions and services, has won a bidding competition on the provision of health care service counselling in the biggest hospital district of Stockholm, the capital of Sweden. In the Stockholm model (Vårdguiden), health care counselling has been divided into two sections: health counselling and service counselling, and Mawell will be responsible for the service counselling.

”Mawell is a leading company in the field of health care counselling in Finland and other countries. This bidding competition gave us an opportunity to implement our expertise and duplicate the proven, good concept also in Sweden. Our model is based on precise quality management and measurement. The quality of telephone counselling is measured in terms of impact and customer satisfaction,” Vice President Kimmo Alaniska says. ”This agreement also offers us an opportunity to learn about the Swedish service concept, and it puts us on the path towards more extensive international implementations. In addition to local counselling, the Swedish system comprises a nationwide telephone service that provides advice on health-related questions. Many problems can be resolved during the phone call and with the given home care instructions, which is easier for the patient and more sensible for the organization, as it helps avoid unnecessary clinic visits and, consequently, more of the health care staff’s time can be spent on patients who need urgent care.”

The Vårdguiden service in Stockholm answers approximately 1.4 million phone calls per year. Mawell’s agreement will become effective in May 2008 and remain valid at least three years.

Health counselling is part of Mawell’s S7 product family of self care and support solutions. The self care tools enable the patient to assume some responsibility and participate in his/her care process. The S7 eServices family includes such tools as appointment-making via the Internet, the NetNurse consulting tool, and the monitoring and reporting of laboratory test results and the patient’s own test results.

”The telephone counselling in Stockholm is the first step in the integrating north European self care market. We aim to expand the markets of our S7 solutions for electronic self care services and health counselling in northern Europe,” Alaniska says. ”Mawell’s activities and product development aim at enabling virtual medical records based on heterogenic case records, as well as improving the overall efficiency in health care by making the data needed in treating a patient always available, regardless of the source of the information, place and time of treatment.
