Mawell brings the leading edge healthcare knowledge to EU wide research project
Mawell provides the Nordic region’s top end technology as used in the European Union’s international CONNECT project (www.ist-connect.eu). European telecommunications companies, network and equipment manufacturers and platform and security technology suppliers have combined to develop and test a platform for mobile services, which among other issues guarantees a strong privacy protection.
”International cooperation is extremely important. Finnish health care is of high quality and Finland has successfully implemented various information systems. Therefore, it’s a good thing that the Finnish consortium participates in this development project and that there are technology companies in the country interested in participating in development projects. Such projects are hugely advantageous for the whole European Union”, says Bart Van Caenegem, the officer in charge of the European Union’s information systems projects.
CONNECT project’s first pilot stage that started in April tests the Finnish Mawell Nurse Network technology, which is used to manage and deploy district nurses. A night patrol of district nurses tests the system, whereas the main support point for the nurse network is a contact centre. The centre receives customer calls and requests and thereafter locates the nearest available district nurse using GPS-technology and then deploys the available nurse to the patient.
”The system was developed at the request of district nurses on call at night to increase their personal safety. At the same time, the tracking and call centre enables the nursing network to be more fluent and flexible, which naturally means better care for the patient. This system follows Mawell S7 solution family’s ideology about bringing an effective and impressive care all the way to the patient’s home. At the same time it makes the operation more efficient and gives the nurses more time to care for the patients”, says Petri Morko, the marketing and information director at Mawell.
”Mawell is the market leader in Northern Europe for virtualized patient informatics and our products are widely used by all hospital districts in Finland and Sweden. As the structure and needs of health care change, we develop our products and services to better meet the requirements of the developing market”, says Morko. ”We are concentrated on international commerce and our goal is to expand our market to the whole of Europe, as well as Japan and Canada. It is for this reason that we invest in international projects, where we can obtain information about the special characteristics of specific markets and where we’re able to test our innovations. In our projects we develop international virtualized patient informatics know-how together with the top professionals in health care.”
The CONNECT projects aims to create innovations and systems architecture for an open, compatible and secure technology that guarantees privacy protection. The developed technology can be applied to several fields. The pilot stage, which started in April, lasts until autumn of 2008 and the project finishes at the end of the year 2008.
