Mawell expands the virtual services of an award-winning Finnish health portal

The hospital district of South Savo offers healthcare services to approx. 100 000 inhabitants in Central Finland. Health portal Hyvis (www.hyvis.fi) developed by Mawell Ltd offers citizens of the South Savo region individual virtual health services. The number of service will increase with the help of Mawell S7 solution products which enables private questions to a nurse and appointments via the portal to healthcare receptions. New services include also an own health record and diary where patient can enter personal information and notes.

Hyvis portal serves the citizens of South Savo by providing healthcare information and services free of charge 24/7. The idea of a portal was developed already at 2001. Since then Hyvis has evolved to a reliable and versatile virtual service. Last year the Finnish National Research and Development centre for Welfare and Health (Stakes) awarded Hyvis portal for creativity, courage and innovation. The technical system is conducted by Mawell ltd, a Nordic technology and consultant company.

OmaHyvis ”Approximately 12.000 visits are paid at Hyvis portal every month and questions and answers service has already more than 2.000 questions. The popular service was extended with OmaHyvis section that includes individual services through coded and protected connection. These new services makes Hyvis genuinely interactive and flexible channel that adds on traditional service channels,” says Maija Paukkala, Project Manager, hospital district of South Savo. “Mawell has helped us in utilizing technology in order to improve services. We have built the Hyvis portal in good co-operation so it was natural to take the next step with the same partner. New services were enabled in the beginning of September.”

S7 ”Hyvis portal has been built module by module. New products, Mawell S7 NetNurse, S7 HealthRecord and S7 Appointment are added in order to enable interaction between the citizens and the hospital district. In the future, it is possible to integrate S7 HealthRecord to hospital district's information systems so that the flow of information between home and hospital becomes automatic. Results of a laboratory test taken at the hospital can be viewed from patient’s home PC and the blood pressure measurements taken at home will be stored in the patient's record,” says Petri Anttila, Mawell’s Country Manager in Finland.

The new services are accessed in an SSL-secured environment and users are authenticated by a trusted third party – a bank of their choice. Like traditional healthcare services, the electronic services come under the confidentiality regulations and the Finnish Law of Patient’s Status and Rights.

S7 NetNurse allows patient and nurse to engage in confidential discussions. Personal health record and diary – S7 HealthRecord – provides a secure place for storing and maintaining personal health information and can prove an invaluable resource for the doctor in charge of patient's treatment. S7 Appointment, developed in co-operation with Nextime Oy, enables making, cancelling or changing appointments to a doctor or a nurse anytime, anywhere.
